Does anyone thing that the Chumash, the original inhabitants of the area, would've been so stupid as to build on sites like these!

Dear Ollan,
I have never understood why people build and keep buidling in places that really don't support human habitat. The nearby canyons have seen fires and mud slides destroying homes many times yet people insist on rebuilding their homes there.

It's kinda like Forest Gump's Mamma said: "Stupid is as stupid does."

The Chumash never built structures like these in the first place!
They lived in simple structures made of sticks and mud in a dome shape with lots of openings to allow the breezes to keep them cool.
Did any of you know that they were exceptional seamen? They build substantial water craft and sealed them with tar found laying on the sands of the beaches. They traveled to all of the Channel Islands. They also used the massive kelp beds to make nets for catching the plentiful fish in the area.
[And they didn't bother to wear much in the way of clothes as the weather was so agreeable.]
